About Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet

Meet Dr. Savannah Howse-Smith, a Métis veterinarian based in rural Alberta. Each day presents a host of new challenges at Rocky Rapids Veterinary Services in Drayton Valley, Alta. From rescuing various wildlife to performing an emergency C-section on a cow, no job is too big or too small for Dr. Savannah.

Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet follows Dr. Savannah as she travels to neighbouring communities to treat animals while learning about her newly discovered Métis heritage. The TV series is the first to be produced by Vancouver-based duo Shirley McLean and Tania Koenig-Gauchier, co-founders of Wapanatahk Media. Through poignant stories about the connection between humans and their furry companions, the docuseries shines a positive light on rural veterinary practice and Métis culture.

During the first season, Dr. Savannah does a health check on a bison herd, works to keep Alberta’s canine friends healthy and safe, treats an injured fawn after a cougar attack and more.

In the second season, Dr. Savannah and her team continue to look after the many pets of rural Alberta, including a guinea pig who has a severe tooth issue, a mini pony who has a strange growth and a Pomeranian who has a bad cough. These sweet animals are in good hands with the crew at Rocky Rapids.
