Kira Doxtator, who currently resides in Vancouver, is Anishinaabe from the Walpole 

Island First Nation, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, and also a proud member of Oneida of the Thames First Nation. With a deep passion for Indigenous storytelling, Kira is dedicated to sharing the diverse, compelling and culturally rich stories of Indigenous Peoples with wider audiences. She is especially driven by the power of Indigenous-made films to inspire and to create a space for important dialogue. 

Kira holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia, where she majored in film studies and minored in First Nations and Indigenous studies. Her academic focus centered on the cultural and social study of Indigenous media production, laying the foundation for her work in the film industry. 

Currently, Kira works as an independent film producer, as well as a production coordinator. Her blossoming career in the film industry includes production design, assistant directing, and producing on numerous Indigenous projects. She has directed two short films, a poem for my future which premiered at NFFTY in Seattle, Wash. in 2024, and through the imagineNATIVE Originals commissioning program, she made The Fourth World Problems Collective, shot on 16mm and premiering in 2025. 

Her work has taken her to Indigenous communities across Canada, including Kuujjuaq and Haida Gwaii, enriching her understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives. As a member of APTN’s Board of Directors, Kira brings her expertise in Indigenous media and her passion for storytelling to support APTN’s many initiatives.
