Winnipeg, Man. – A new national news program called Nouvelles Nationales d’APTN will debut Aug. 26, 2019 on APTN, the first Indigenous national television network in the world. The weekly program will air on aptn e in Eastern Canada, at 6:30 p.m. ET.

While APTN has been offering French programs for many years, Nouvelles Nationales d’APTN will be the network’s very first French national news program intended for an Indigenous audience. “A French news program was in the works for a long time. At last, we are proud to launch this brand-new program on APTN,” says Jean La Rose, CEO of APTN.

Anchorwoman and co-producer Sophie Claude Miller will be at the helm of this new program. Miller hails from the Waswanipi Cree First Nation, in James Bay, QC. Prior to joining APTN, she worked in communications and as a social worker. After completing an internship at the CBC, she discovered her passion for journalism and joined APTN in January 2019.

The new 30-minute program will focus on Quebec’s 11 First Nations and provide profiles on community members, investigations, extended news stories and interviews to put the weekly news into perspective. Danielle Rochette, a recently retired Huron-Wendat journalist will be the program’s first guest. She was the Quebec correspondent for APTN National News for 14 years.

A website dedicated to the program and its content will be available online this fall. Until then, the public is invited to consult the program’s social media accounts for additional details.
