Born and raised on Treaty 9 territory in Chapleau, Ont., Jennifer David is of mixed Irish, French, Anishinaabe and Ininew ancestry. She is a proud member of Chapleau Cree First Nation. 

After high school, Jennifer moved to Ottawa to pursue a bachelor of journalism and a bachelor of arts at Carleton University. Upon graduating, she applied for a communications coordinator position with a little-known satellite distribution network called Television Northern Canada (TVNC), which would later come to be known as APTN. She eventually became director of communications, where she worked to promote Indigenous producers, gather support for the network and participate in its official launch.  

Jennifer left APTN in 2000 and has been working as a communications consultant ever since. She currently works as a senior consultant at NVision Insight Group Inc., where she specializes in developing and delivering Indigenous cultural awareness and intercultural capacity workshops and courses.  

Outside of work, Jennifer loves reading, writing and co-hosting Storykeepers, a monthly podcast about Indigenous books. In 2010, she wrote and self-published a book called Original People, Original Television, which details the history and launch of APTN.
