Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan says the Conservative government will introduce legislation allowing private land ownership on First Nations reserves sometime next year.
Duncan told APTN National News that the legislation will allow First Nations to “opt in” to the legislation, once passed, which would introduce fee simple land ownership within reserve boundaries.
The Assembly of First Nations, the country’s largest Indigenous organization, has come out against the introduction ofprivate land ownership on reserves.
