The Lily of the Mohawks is one step closer to sainthood.
It was announced by Pope Benedict that Kateri Tekawitha will be officially made the first Aboriginal saint in North America.
The canonization will happen on Oct. 21.
Kateri was born in New York State but fled to the Mohawk community of Kahnawake to escape persecution for her Christianity.
A church in Kahnawake carries her name.
