Shady Street Kings

So I read a bit about this movie, so I kinda get the jist of it but it sounds like it’s quite twisted. I mean, in a way that has a lot of plot twists, not like a super creepy guy wearing a baby outfit type of twisted. We have some bigger named actors like the awesome, the talented, the super APTN phenom Keanu Reeves! Then there’s Forest Whitaker, Hugh “House-man” Laurie (as I lovingly refer to him), Jay Mohr and Chris “Super-hot” Evans (as I also lovingly refer to him). These dudes, acting wise (and handsome wise), are all kings in my books.

Have you ever noticed how Street Kings can be strangely misconstrued if you don’t pronounce the “t” at the end of Street? Well, Kernel – who has terrible hearing for a dog, heard it just like that. Without the “t”. The result? Naked talking dog in my living room. Yup, he thought that instead of watching tonight’s movie we were going to do some “Stree-Kings”. Not something I want to see, especially when I’m used to a dog wearing clothes. Which is actually all too familiar when I see people and their dogs these days, the only difference is their dogs don’t choose what they are going to wear, like Kernel does. Also, I’m not the public nudity type of girl.

Have you ever been streaking? I just couldn’t do it… I’m just a little too self-conscious.

Hope you enjoy tonight’s movie STREET KINGS which has nothing to do with streaking, by the way, and that you’ll be back next Friday, February 4 for Ready to Wear.

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend.

Street Kings

Street Kings

Released: 2008

This action-packed, hot-tempered movie centres around Tom Ludlow who is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he’s been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him.

Starring:

Keanu Reeves as Detective Tom Ludlow
Forest Whitaker as Captain Jack Wander
Hugh Laurie as Captain James Biggs
Chris Evans as Detective Paul Diskant
Cedric the Entertainer as Scribble (as Cedric ‘The Entertainer’ Kyles)
Jay Mohr as Sgt. Mike Clady

Trivia:

This is the scoop: James Ellroy wrote the screenplay in the mid-1990’s after he was inspired by the O.J. Simpson trial. Over the years, Spike Lee, David Fincher, and Oliver Stone were attached to direct the film at various stages of pre-production. Sean Penn was once attached to star. John Ridley contributed to an early version of the screenplay. Belgian director Erik Van Looy was set to direct this film according to various interviews, but these plans were scrapped in preproduction, upon which Van Looy went on to direct Loft (2008/I) in his home country.

During the funeral scene for Det. Washington (Terry Crews), 43-year LAPD veteran, Chief ‘Daryl Gates’ (I) makes a cameo. He can be seen saluting prior to the gun salute and again as he’s walking away with Capt. Wander (Forest Whitaker).

Oh, you said Street Kings!

So there was a tiny bit of confusion about what movie we were watching this week. Apparently it’s called Street Kings. It’s not about shedding all of your clothes and running across a public space/venue. I was kind of excited about that idea. I mean, who doesn’t like to feel the wind on his fur. It’s ultimate freedom. But I’m cool with the plot of this movie too.

Street Kings is a manly tough guys movie- perfect for a dude like me. It stars Keanu who is one of my favorite actors. We’re pretty similar in a lot of ways; ruggedly handsome, crazy with talent, stylish, popular with the ladies. Really, we have it all. The whole package. The whole enchilada. The big tuna. Hmmm, you know I’m kind of hungry and it’s almost time for my favorite soap, I mean, fishing show so I think I’ll go and have some lunch now.

See you Friday!

Kernel.
