Predator

Before the Alien, before several more emerged, there was just one – Predator. The man to introduce us to the alien life form in the first of the Predator films is the incomparable action star, Arnold Schwarzenegger. If there’s one thing that inspires me to come back to Schwarzenegger movies again and again after all these years, it would be the one-liners that only Arnie can deliver. In one instance when our good pal Dutch (The Governator) has nailed a guy to the wall with his knife he says – get this – “Stick around.” Ha! CLASSIC!

Kernel has been a little jumpier than usual it seems. He thinks someone is watching him. I’m pretty sure he just feels my eyes watching him because I don’t need any more accidents, or as Kernel would say, “presents” in my bedroom. When I get home from work I can usually find him curled up on the couch under a blanket or running up to me, begging to be taken out for walk. I just think he’s going a little stir crazy but it’s been so cold lately it’s hard to take him out for long walks!  Great, now I seem like the bad guy…

Speaking of bad guys, this Predator dude is really creepy. I remember watching this movie as a young-un and half-peeking from under the couch cushion. It got me wondering about what creeps a person out. Is there anything in a movie you can remember being creeped out by as a child or even now? Aw man, when I was young I watched the worst zombie movie and was scarred for life… they came out of the tv!! Any similar experiences?

Anywho, we hope you enjoy watching Predator with us this Friday! Tune in again next Friday, January 28 for Street Kings starring Keanu Reeves.

See you then!
Thanks for watching.

Watch Out for the Predator

I only have a few minutes- I have been hiding and plotting my next move. There’s some kind of alien freak after me. I told Chantelle that I felt like somebody was watching me all week but she didn’t believe me. I thought it was that ridiculous cat from next door. (I pretty much blame that cat first for anything and everything and I’m usually right) but now I’m certain it’s a much more intelligent being. It’s like it knows my next move even before I do. It’s driving me crazy.  It’s seriously cutting into my relaxing time. I was all set to watch one of my favorite soaps, I mean manly hunting show with my lunch today when I could feel these eyes on me. Beady little green eyes. It’s been very unsettling. I think I’m going to ask Chantelle to take me for– I mean go for a walk when she gets home from work just to get some fresh air and see if this thing is following me when I do my business too.

Hope to see you Friday.

Predator

Predator
Released: 1987

A team of commandos, on a mission in a Central American jungle, find themselves hunted… is it a soldier, an extra-terrestrial or a bit of both?!!

Starring:
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch
Jesse Ventura as Blain
Sonny Landham as Billy

Trivia:
According to an interview with director John McTiernan, the “hole in the jungle” appearance of the Predator was played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in a “blue screen” (actually red) suit. Reportedly, Van Damme quit after a couple of days, unhappy with being cast as an uncredited special effect, but can be seen as the Predator in If It Bleeds We Can Kill It: The Making of ‘Predator’ (2001). The alien was scrapped, redesigned and was eventually played by Kevin Peter Hall who was 7′2″ tall.

It has been noted that the mandibles of the predator were the idea of James Cameron.

Word on the street is that the concept for this film originated as a joke. Someone said that the only person Rocky Balboa of the Rocky (1976) series of films had yet to fight was E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982). What do you think?

What’s with the political connections? Two of the actors portraying commandos besieged by the Predator have been elected to state governorships: Jesse Ventura (Independent) was elected Governor of Minnesota in 1998, and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Republican) was elected Governor of California in a hotly-contested recall election in 2003. In addition, Sonny Landham (Republican) ran an unsuccessful campaign for Governor of Kentucky in 2003. There you go!
