What would it be like to be one of Charlie’s Angels?

This was my first time watching Charlie’s Angels and I couldn’t help but really enjoy myself. Well, aside of Kernel trying his best to take the female lead from me during our show.  Although I have to say to Kernel; Girl I didn’t know you could get down like that!

Some may ask, how action-packed can a movie starring three super-hot women be?

I have the answer for you. Very! It kicks the butt of a lot of the action movies I’ve seen starring dudes, that’s for sure. With butts in mind, well, there is that famous scene of Diaz dancing her booty off in her room in her panties. I don’t think many manly action heroes could pull that off like her! These women love to use their beauty as a weapon that’s for sure.

The beginning was pretty intense and that’s how the best action movies start. With a cameo by rapper/actor LL Cool J, who then ends up actually… Well, I’ll let you see for yourself.

You know this movie is going to feature some sexy, cute and fun scenes when we have the likes of Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu teaming up. These ultra-confident actresses play Dylan, Natalie, and Alex, respectively, the super sly detectives known as Charlie’s Angels. I can’t forget about Bill Murray who plays Bosley. He makes me smile. The movie is an adaptation of the 70’s television hit of the same name but the plot has been stepped up a new notches.

Behind these strong women are, arguably, strong men. Keep in mind that these nearly superhero-like women still have a soft side. We are introduced to Barrymore waking up with her real-life love interest  (at the time) Tom Green who plays “The Chad”.  Liu is dating “Joey” from Friends, Matt LeBlanc who plays an actor. He’s really expanded his repertoire in this one! And then we have Diaz who meets her guy Pete while undercover. He’s played by Luke Wilson back before his more famous role in Old School (2002).  However, relationships don’t seem easy to maintain in the Angels’ line of work.

Relationships aren’t easy to maintain in my line of work either…the work of dealing with Kernel all the time. Just the other day, when I told him what movie we were watching, I couldn’t find him anywhere for the longest time. Apparently, he was trying out some new moves with some rope, tape and a video camera. I found him in the closet trying to spy on me and he somehow got stuck… on the ceiling. I left him for a while until his whimpering got to me.

As I finish up my blog, and listening to the awesome soundtrack this movie has I’m wondering… which Angel am I most like? A girl can’t help but try to put herself in one of these ladies’ leather heels. I think I’m more of a Natalie.

Who are you most like? Or for the guys, who was your favourite Angel?

Be sure to join us again next Friday, May 20 for Pushing Tin. A tale of one-upmanship that takes it to the extreme starring John Cusak, Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton.

Hope to hear from you!

Fun Flick Factoids

Charlie’s Angels
Released in 2000

Three women, detectives with a mysterious boss, retrieve stolen voice-ID software, using martial arts, tech skills, and sex appeal.

Starring:
Cameron Diaz as Natalie Cook
Drew Barrymore as Dylan Sanders
Lucy Liu as Alex Mundy
Bill Murray as John Bosley

Eighteen different writers worked on the script for this movie and it was re-written at least 30 times until one was finally accepted by the producers and director.

The actresses trained with their martial arts master for three months, eight hours a day. The actresses who finally made the film weren’t the first actresses considered for these roles. The role of Alex was originally offered to Angelina Jolie who turned it down after admitting she was not a fan of the original series. It was then offered to Jada Pinkett Smith who declined it to film Bamboozled (2000) instead. Thandie Newton was finally cast but had to leave because of bad weather that caused the Mission: Impossible II (2000) schedule to overrun. The role was eventually taken by Lucy Liu. Milla Jovovich, Alyssa Milano and Julia Roberts were among the many actresses who were forerunners for the parts of Natalie, Dylan and Alex.

The Thin Man, played by Crispin Glover, originally had a speaking role, but word on the street is that Glover didn’t like the lines, so he asked for them to be removed. The director and producer agreed to make it a non-speaking role to give the character a more mysterious feel.

The original cast of “Charlie’s Angels” (1976) – Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett – were invited to make cameo appearances, but declined. Reportedly, Fawcett said she’d only do it if she were allowed to be the voice of Charlie – now that would have been interesting!  Jackson insisted on playing the villainous role that eventually went to Kelly Lynch. Ultimately, John Forsythe and Smith did appear in the sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003). Smith’s role was uncredited, however.

The Things I Do For Fame

So Chantelle and I are watching a movie this week- Charlie’s Angels on the Friday Night Flick- you must have heard of it. After all, it stars ME! So, I’m sure you’ve been watching every Friday just to see ME, not to mention we’ve got a few good movies too. So like I said, we’re watching Charlie’s Angels. And I don’t really get why Charlie gets his name in the title when the girls do all the hard work and we don’t even see this Charlie dude – what was my point again.. oh ya, so we’re watching this movie and I found myself kind of getting in touch with my feminine side. Did you know that guys have a feminine side too…? Well they do, I mean, WE do! So all of a sudden I wanted to try the waxing and the lipstick. Neither tasted very good by the way but I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about. And I think I’m happier being a boy. But check out the movie and see what you think of me as my alter ego.
Happy movie watching.
