Tonight on Nation to Nation
Speaking on Nation to Nation’s political panel, Conservative MP Rob Clarke assured host Nigel Newlove that numbers quoted by Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt at a recent meeting with Alberta chiefs will be released in a report.
In late March, during a meeting with Treaty 7 and Treaty 8 chiefs, Valcourt said that 70 per cent of Aboriginal women were killed by Aboriginal men. Those statistics have never been released publicly but both Clarke, and the Aboriginal Affairs press secretary, said they will be made public in “in due course.”
Flooding is an annual event that most communities could do without. But with spring just beginning, many are bracing for the worst. What is the federal government doing about it? The panel discusses that and NDP MP Charlie Angus joins us to talk about the situation in northern Ontario.
Alberta chiefs want Aboriginal Affairs minister fired and their NDP MP is backing them up.
