FIRST PEOPLES RADIO APPLICATION
APTN has assessed the feasibility of establishing a national radio station in the cities of Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Existing services do not represent the broader spectrum of experiences and cultural events that make up the lives of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in these cities.
APTN wants to fill this gap by creating radio services that offer a true reflection of Aboriginal Peoples’ voices and music as a part of the dialogue in each city.
First Peoples Radio Inc., a non-profit corporation established by APTN, has applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for licences to operate new Aboriginal radio stations in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa. The CRTC has announced that it will consider these applications at an upcoming public hearing. Information about the public hearing and the First Peoples Radio applications can be found at the following link: http://crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2017/2017-1.htm [CRTC Broadcasting Notice of Consultation 2017-1].
